Saya no Uta Review: Distorted Morality and a Horrifying Reality

Image

Well yesterday I finished playing through the short visual novel known as Saya no Uta, and I can definitely say it was a strange one, to say the very least.  Saya no Uta was easily one of the most disturbing, screwed up stories I have ever encountered in any medium.  Saya was up there with stories like Berserk and Higurashi in terms of insane, explicit content.  The key difference, however, is that I was very engaged with those two because of their intricate plots and wide character development.  Saya no Uta, while a good story, was much less appealing to me in the long run and lacking in a few areas. Katawa Shoujo Review: Disabilities and Defining Oneself

Image

Well ever since I finished Lilly’s route I’ve been pretty much done with Katawa Shoujo, only needing to go back for one scene.  This last week has been pretty busy with projects and finals to deal with so I didn’t get time to post again, but now that I’m out on summer vacation it’s a good time for me to write about my final impressions on Katawa Shoujo as a whole. Katawa Shoujo: Lilly’s Route Review: My Final KS Adventure

Image

Yesterday night I managed to complete my final route of Katawa Shoujo, and with one scene after that 100% completion of the entire game.  Now Katawa Shoujo was definitely quite the experience and there’s a lot I could say about it, but before I go on to post about my final thoughts on the game, I think it’s better to focus on the girl of my last route: Lilly Satou. Katawa Shoujo: Shizune’s Route Review: Relationship Issues and Bonds Between Friends

With schoolwork and the like I haven’t been able to play as quickly as I would prefer but yesterday I finally completed Shizune Hakamichi’s route, leaving me with only Lilly’s.  As I had feared from what I heard about this route, Shizune’s route ended up being my least favorite yet.  Of course, that’s not to say that it’s a bad route, but I certainly enjoyed the others more. Continue reading

Katawa Shoujo: Hanako’s Route Review: The Scars of the Past

l

My third route of Katawa Shoujo is complete, which sadly reminds me that I’m getting closer to reaching the end of this adventure.  Two more routes left to go and I hope that they’ll match up to the three I have played.  More importantly though, the latest route I’ve completed is that of Hanako Ikezawa, which was refreshing because she made very few appearances in my previous two routes. Continue reading

Katawa Shoujo: Emi’s Route Review: Shouldering Burdens and Running from Reality

Image

At long last I have finally returned to Katawa Shoujo, and yesterday I managed to complete the Emi Ibarazaki route.  I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Rin’s route, but it’s still fantastic and appeals in quite a different way. Continue reading

Katawa Shoujo: Rin’s Route Review: An Artist’s Dilemma and Self Acceptance

Image

So I just finished my first playthrough of Katawa Shoujo, which I have been looking forward to for a while.  Many people have told me that it’s a fantastic story and I certainly enjoyed my first route.  As it turns out, the first route I ended up with was Rin Tezuka’s. Continue reading
